Health assessment at Clinique IPS du Palais

A comprehensive, preventive and personalized approach

At Clinique IPS du Palais, we believe that a health assessment is not just about looking for a disease.

Above all, it helps to better understand your current health, detect certain risk factors, review your lifestyle habits and guide you in a personalized way.

Even when everything seems fine, prevention remains a valuable tool.

A comprehensive approach to your blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, weight and hormonal health? Metabolic health →

Our vision is simple: take care of your health before a problem sets in, not just once symptoms appear.

The most common question

Everything is fine… so why get a health assessment?

It’s a very common question — and a perfectly valid one.

When you feel well, it is natural to think that a health assessment is not necessary. Yet many health issues can develop silently for years without causing symptoms at first.

For example, some people may have:

  • high blood pressure;
  • abnormal cholesterol;
  • blood sugar that needs monitoring;
  • cardiovascular risk factors;
  • lifestyle habits that affect their long-term health;
  • a lack of sleep, recovery or overall balance;
  • some screening tests that are not up to date.

The health assessment therefore makes it possible to take stock before a problem becomes more serious.

It’s not about looking for disease everywhere. It’s about:

  • identifying, early on, certain things to keep an eye on;
  • confirming that everything is fine;
  • better understanding your health profile;
  • putting simple, concrete actions in place, if needed;
  • supporting you in a prevention approach tailored to you.

In other words: a health assessment is not only useful when something is wrong. It is also useful for preserving what is going well.

Our vision of the health assessment

A complete clinical visit centred on the person

At Clinique IPS du Palais, we do not see the health assessment as a standard list of tests done automatically for everyone. We see it as a complete and thoughtful clinical visit, centred on the person.

1

Seeing the whole person

Your health is not just a blood test or a number. It is influenced by several factors:

  • your medical history
  • your family history
  • your age
  • your lifestyle habits
  • your stress level
  • your sleep
  • your diet
  • your physical activity
  • your mental health
  • your environment
  • your personal goals

That is why we take a comprehensive approach.

2

Prevent rather than react

We deeply believe in the value of prevention. A health assessment can help to:

  • detect a problem early;
  • reduce certain risks;
  • correct certain issues before they have a greater impact;
  • give you concrete benchmarks to take better care of yourself.
3

Tailoring the assessment to your situation

Everyone is different. An active young adult will not necessarily have the same needs as a 52-year-old, an overwhelmed parent, someone working on weight loss or a patient with several family history factors.

We therefore personalize the content of the health assessment according to:

  • your age
  • your clinical situation
  • your history
  • your risk factors
  • your concerns
  • your goals
4

Helping you make informed decisions

The goal is not only to assess.

The goal is also to clearly explain what we observe, what is reassuring, what needs follow-up and what options are available to you.

We want you to leave with a better understanding of your health, not more confusion.

What does a health assessment involve?

A complete consultation with a nurse practitioner

The health assessment is a complete consultation with a nurse practitioner (NP) to review your current health. Depending on your situation, it may include:

Review of your history

  • personal medical history;
  • family history;
  • past surgeries or hospitalizations;
  • known health conditions;
  • allergies;
  • medications and supplements.

Assessment of your lifestyle habits

  • diet;
  • physical activity;
  • sleep;
  • use of tobacco, alcohol or other substances;
  • stress level;
  • overall quality of life.

Clinical assessment

  • blood pressure measurement;
  • weight, height and other relevant measurements;
  • vital signs;
  • discussion of your symptoms or concerns;
  • physical examination if needed.

Analysis of your risk factors

  • cardiovascular health;
  • metabolic health;
  • diabetes prevention;
  • weight management;
  • hereditary risk factors;
  • hormonal or other issues depending on your profile.

Screening and additional tests if needed

Depending on your age, health status and situation, the NP may recommend or prescribe certain relevant tests or analyses.

The goal is not to do everything systematically. The goal is to order what is useful, relevant and suited to your situation.

Recommendations and personalized plan

After the health assessment, you leave with:

  • a clearer picture of your health;
  • tailored recommendations;
  • realistic priorities;
  • an action or follow-up plan when needed.

Who is it for?

Who is the health assessment for?

A health assessment can be relevant at any age.

For some people, it also becomes particularly relevant after age 50, especially if no assessment has been done recently.

It is particularly useful if:

  • you have not had a recent comprehensive assessment;
  • you want to take charge of your health proactively;
  • you have a family history of diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, heart disease or other conditions;
  • you are experiencing fatigue, stress or certain changes without knowing whether they are significant;
  • you want to take stock before starting a fitness or weight loss program;
  • you are approaching a new stage of life;
  • you want to check whether you are up to date on your screening tests;
  • you simply want a better overall picture of your health.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about the health assessment

If I have no symptoms, is it useful?

Yes. A health assessment can help detect certain issues before symptoms appear. It can also confirm that everything is fine and give you useful benchmarks for the future.

Does a health assessment mean automatic blood tests?

No. Tests are ordered based on your age, your history, your risk factors and the clinical situation. It is not about doing unnecessary tests, but about choosing the relevant ones.

Is it only for older people?

No. A health assessment can be relevant at any age. Prevention is not reserved for a specific group. The content of the assessment simply varies from person to person.

Can we discuss other concerns during the appointment?

Yes. The health assessment is a good time to discuss your concerns, certain symptoms, your energy, your sleep, your weight, your metabolic health or other questions related to your overall health.

Is the health assessment only for screening?

No. It also helps to better understand your current health, advise you, adjust certain lifestyle habits, guide certain follow-ups and give you a clearer view of your situation.

What will I actually get out of it?

A better understanding of your health, personalized advice, a better idea of your risk factors and, if needed, a follow-up or action plan.

I am 50 or older and need to have a SAAQ form completed. Is a health assessment necessary?

At Clinique IPS du Palais, for patients aged 50 and over or with relevant medical history, we require that a health assessment (check-up) less than two years old be available and sufficiently documented before completing a SAAQ report. This is a clinic policy. Learn more about the SAAQ form.

Taking care of your health, even when everything is fine

You don’t need to wait for a problem to set in before seeing someone. A health assessment can be an excellent way to:

  • take stock
  • be reassured
  • prevent
  • better understand your body
  • take actions suited to your situation
