Good to know
The Canada Revenue Agency states that, in general, an employer’s payment or reimbursement of an employee’s medical expenses is a taxable benefit. Exceptions include cases where the expenses are paid by an eligible private health services plan, or where a medical exam is required as a condition of employment2.
Revenu Québec considers that the employer’s contribution to a group insurance plan, including a private health services plan, is a taxable benefit for the employee3.
